About Spatial Rotation
A shape. Four options. Which one is the rotated version of the original — and which are deceptively-mirrored versions? Spatial rotation is a key cognitive skill that's surprisingly trainable.
How to Play
- See the target shape at the top
- Look at 4 candidate shapes below
- Pick the one that's the SAME shape, just rotated
- Mirror images don't count — they're the trap
- Score +10 per correct answer
Tips & Strategy
- Pick a corner or detail of the original to track — does it appear in the same orientation?
- Mentally rotate: imagine grabbing the original and physically turning it
- Most people are slower at this skill than they realize. Don't get discouraged.
- Practice helps significantly — research shows 5+ hours of training measurably improves mental rotation
Brain Benefits
Mental rotation predicts performance in STEM fields, particularly engineering and architecture. It's also one of the few cognitive skills with a documented gender gap that closes with practice.
